The Democratic Republic of Congo was renamed Zaire.

In the US, buses were ordered to be used to achieve racial desegragation in schools.

The United States lowered the voting age to 18.

Australian Evonne Goolagong and John Newcombe were Wimbledon singles finals winners.

Lead singer of the Doors, Jim Morrison, died in Paris aged 27.

The main movies were A Clockwork Otrange, The French Connection, The Last Picture Show
and Fiddler on the Roof.

The main books were E.M. Forster's Maurice and John Hawkes' Blood Oranges.

Intel developed the microprocessor.

Mariner IX orbitted Mars sending the first pictures back to Earth.

Department store founder, J.C.Penny, died.

In 1971

The Principal of Redcliffe State High School was Mal Justins with Alan Philp as Acting Principal.

Norm Bruce was Acting deputy.

The Senior Mistress was Agnes Lampe.

There were students in the Senior class. These students sat for the external Senior examination.
The school captains were Karen Daniels and Martin Kent.

Turrubul won the Athletics carnival.

The dux of the school was Leonie Walker.
